Let's celebrate: INDUSTRIAL MUSIC!

Aggrotech, EBM, Witch House, Cybergrind, whatever you wanna call it we're celebrating it tonight! Starting from the top we got the BBC Four doc Krautrock, a sober and reflective journey through the birth pangs of the genre. In the middle (where it at?) we're featuring the totally unauthorized Rammstein rockumentary Industrial Angels. Then on the bottom a full length Suicide Commando live show because, you know, stuff and things and... shut up. You find me a watchable third industrial music doc that isn't in a buncha parts on a playlist and I'll put in slot three, until then, suck it.

Let's celebrate GOTHS!

Ok let's get this straight right out the gate, dig? We are not here to mock the goths, far from it. Well, not too far from it, at the very least nearby it. First up we have the classic 2005 American Goth doc. Lotta fun there to be had both with and at. Even if you hate goth music, and many of us do, it's still a great watch almost a decade later. After that we found an out of print gem, The Height of Goth: 1984: A Night at the Xclusiv Nightclub. It's over two hours at a goth club in 1984, for the most part uncut, so you know does what it says on the tin I reckon. Finally we got A Light in the Darkness, A Gothicon Documentary (2011), haven't found the time to sit through this one, so, yadda yadda yadda.
Have at it O Lost souls of perdition.

Let's celebrate BLACK METAL!

Did someone say SATAN?! No? Ah well, whatever. Here we go in part of of tonight's posts celebrating fringe culture around the world.

First up we got us some black metal with these three lovely docs: Black Metal - A Documentary (2007),
True Norwegian Black Metal (2011) from Vice magazine, and finally Out of the Black (2013). I haven't watched these yet, so let's do this together, shall we?

Grant Morrison: Talking with Gods!

Directed by Patrick Meaney
Starring Grant Morrison, Karen Berger, Warren Ellis, Frazer Irving, Geoff Johns, Frank Quitely, Cameron Stewart, Jill Thompson, Mark Waid and more.

IMDB sez:
"Grant Morrison: Talking with Gods is a feature length documentary that takes an in depth look at the life, career and mind of the man behind such pivotal titles as Batman RIP, The Invisibles, All Star Superman, The New X-Men, and many more. Featuring candid interviews with Morrison and his most important collaborators, Talking with Gods reveals an intelligent and thought provoking side of comic books that is often overlooked in Hollywood adaptations. "

What WE say: Even if comics are not your bag, there's plenty to chew on in this doc. I mean we don't just have to talk about comics. We could talk about... um, Chaos Magick? CHECK! Drugs? CHECK! Comics? CHE... oh, wait. Yeah, I see what you did there, and it wasn't funny the first time.  So what are you waiting for, let's get watching!

The Dirk Diggler Story (1988)!!

Director: (as Paul Anderson)

Stars:, ,

The original short that gave birth to Boogie Nights! In all it's bootleg VHS glory, and you know how much we adore that VHS look. I could tell you all about it but then you would fail to learn how to use Wikipedia properly. You know... your mother and I were just talking about that the other day and we feel that someone your age really should be a bit more hip to internet things, don't you? Now, go on, run along and watch The Dirk Diggler Story! You'll thank us when you're older!

Mondo Cane!

Stars:, , |

What IMDB sez: "A "shockumentary" consisting of a collection of mostly real archive footage displaying mankind at its most depraved and perverse, displaying bizarre rites, cruel behavior and bestial violence."

What WE say: Nowadays, in the age of THE INTERNET! and reality TV, you might find this little piece of film rather quaint. Full of "shocking" footage that wouldn't even qualify as an opening round on Fear Factor. But that's not the point, really. This bad boy of cinema was the dang gum FIRST! film freakout. People lost they damn minds back in the day watching this shit, man. Like fainting in the aisles and getting the vapors and whatnot. So, what do you say we talk a trip back in time and pay a visit to the olden golden days of underground cinema with MONDO CANE!

Cremaster!

 What Wikipedia sez: ???

What WE say: Um. Yeah. Well... IT'S ART! We know that much. Both disturbing and beautiful, it's pretentious beyond human reason, there are no words to wrap your head around this baby. We've chose the numerical first in the series instead of the production number (which is part four, dontcha know) for no other reason then my constant and obsessive need for order to be imposed on an orderless universe, where dark beasts of flame and shadow stare back at us from unending nightmare worlds barely seen nor understood waiting to devour our pulsating masses of flesh and bone and soul the first time we let our guard down the merest hint of failure screaming unto our... ahem. Just watch the fucking thing, I gotta go wash my hands... again.

Urgh! A Music War!

What WE say: Sadly this isn't the complete film, that's not on YouTube, yet. But here's the next best thing, enjoy!
